Dear friends, I kept my fingers off my keyboard for a few hours, to dedicate my time to God, and something happens. Let's get this point by point. Member warning/ban/deletionFirst of all, I have been informed by Daniel that there's someone, a member, who kept posting some weird posts about American football. The member's name is jamiafqc, and registered the forum today, at 14:28, Bucharest time. According to his profile, we're talking about a male, 22, born January 29th, 1990. He's already posted 6 different posts, thus reaching the stage of a Monastic (and being the only one who has achieved this stage). The posts he's posted are all about American football. These posts have nothing to do with the subject and area of our Assembly. Obvoiusly, they shall be deleted. His 6 posts have been posted in a 10-minute interval, from 14:28 EEST, to 14:38. Now, I will warn this member, urging him to introduce himself in the following 24 hours (until Monday, at 19:30 EEST). Failing to comply leads to either banning this member, or, worse, deleting this member. I hereby ask you, the Assembly: what should we do after 24 hours? Should I ban him, or directly delete him?
(I hope I can delete him; if he fails to introduce himself, this could be a sign that he's a bot, and that his mission is spamming. However, if he introduces himself until tomorrow, I'll continue my inquiry). Members not introduced yetIn roughly the same situation are other two members, carlosae and dkontoudis. These two members have done nothing serious, except the fact that they haven't introduced themselves yet. They won't receive an official warning; we wait for them to introduce themselves. Failing to do so in a course of a week shall result in their official warning, for not respecting the common-sense rules. Other issuesIn case you haven't noticed yet, we have a system of rankings here, based on the number of posts members post. Here's how they look: I would also want to add, at 150 posts, Katholikos, but we'll see about that. I'm thinking that we could start the process of electing the Council in a few days; we have 12 members now. I'm also thinking to wait until we reach 15 members. We'll see how things evolve. Thank you for your attention!

Hi Andrei, perhaps you should just warn him, then delete if he does not post again (or constitutes spamming) this way you are explaining the problem and offering him a chance to sort it out, then if you delete him if he does not post or continues to spam, he had been warned.

I warned him (I raised his warning level at 80%), and gave him 24 hours to introduce himself. If he doesn't do this, I shall consider him bot, and will ban him without any time limit.

I think if jamiafqc doesn't respond after 24 to 48 hours that he should be deleted.
I think what might help curb those types of posts is if we put together a set of rules and posted them as soon as possible. Most boards I use have their users agree to the rules before being allowed to post and allow certain penalties for infractions. I would suggest creating an OOC (out of context) forum but since we're trying to keep this tailored to Orthodoxy, the rules might need to state that OOC content is not permitted. The penalties for breaking a rule would be totally up to you, Andrei, and any board moderators.

This is why we'll elect a Council, which will create some rules. But we're still waiting for people to enter the forum.
So far, we're 12. I hope some more would enter, so that our activity has more weight and importance.
But we can elect the Coucil, a 5-member Council, even faster.

The five member council would be most appropriate while we're waiting for more people come in. We could elect more once we've met our goal of 15 or so. All we need right now is something basic to help maintain decorum.

I agree with the idea of giving him 24-48 hours to respond to your post otherwise he is probably a spam bot.

Yes, I agree too. If there is no response, definitely a bot.

There is less than one hour and 30 minutes left until the ultimatum to jamiafqc expires. This user hasn't been posted since yesterday. And nothing on his introduction.
Should I give him another 24 hours, or should I ban him without any time limit?
Opinions expected.

I would say just delete HIM. If he tries to join again then it will be clear that he's a genuine person, then will have the opportunity to do so.

His last login was at 1:38, so if he is a legit person then he hasn't seen this post yet. So maybe giving him until tomorrow?

I don't think we should give him another 24 hours, especially after him posting about American football on a religious forum, and after failing to introduce himself. As of this message, he is officially deleted from this forum/board.
Now, the other two members, carlosae and dkontoudis, are in my attention: they have one week to introduce themselves, or their treatment shall be the same as jamiafqc's.

I think people should be required to post here as soon as they register, with a given time interval of about 3-4 days to do so. However, I am happy that our membership numbers go beyond the original 8 Edit: By the way... I know that this is an Orthodox forum and all, but we should have extra boards for talking about non-Orthodox things, like personal interests, books, music, and just random conversation. This is effective on most forums.

Definitely! There is another forum I was looking into Orthodoxy and it was aimed at Orthodox Christians. I think they had boards for non-Orthodox (which was really useful) and a more personal board with things that Vlad has mentioned.

I third that, maybe an "off topic" section for the cliche "what are you listening to at the moment" or "What are your favourite" movies things for people that want to do that.
I know that the main focus of this is intelligent theological discussion but, as Pope Shenouda III once said, "we are not angels..."

I can't figure out how to do that. . . tips??[/quote If you have photoshop then all you need to do is to create an image and upload it into TinyPic. Once that's done and you have the image code for forums (I think that's the right one), then you go onto "modify your profile" and paste that link into the signature text box and save it.
