hi all,
I was just wondering whether anyone had any ideas for promoting the assembly.
We only have 20 odd members, all from the Tumblr community yet between us we have hundreds of Orthodox followers or followers interested in Orthodoxy.
Does anyone have any ideas for how to get more from the Tumblr Orthodox community interested?

Well, making posts can only get us so far. It would be more effective if we were to actually contact our Orthodox Tumblr friends and ask them if they're interested in joining. You never know who may have missed the messages, y'know?

I will make posts dedicated to the Assembly frequently (at least once a week). It will also be a nice idea to make a banner of the Assembly (in html code wich is tumblr-friendly) and put it in our blogs sidebar. We could also made a twitter page.

These are great ideas, I especially like the banner one.
The one thing I am avoiding is posting about it in Facebook since I find that Facebook is where all the crazies live. :-P

The banner would be an excellent idea! I agree about Facebook thing; most of my friends on Facebook would either ignore it or they would join it and be silly about it (some have anti-Theistic tendencies). I posted it on Twitter once but all I got were tweets from another forum asking me to join them.

If someone who is better than me at HTML code creates a banner with the OOCA logo (as seen on the forum), and adapts it to be inserted on the Tumblr blog or on any other website, I shall do that (put it on the blog, website etc.).
Just as Simply Orthodox, I will also post on my Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and Google+ important things from OOCA.
I know that external ads must be paid, and I really wouldn't like to mix money with spiritual and religious stuff.
So I don't have any other ideas... Oh, I could print a T-shirt, and show off with it on the street, but I find that inappropriate.

I don't know how to make a banner, but if you want the logo to be in your description, then paste this code into the description: <a href="http://www.ooca.boards.net/"><img src="http://i49.tinypic.com/34ditd4.jpg" width="260" height="75"></a> That will generate an image that looks like the one on this page: blank02012013.tumblr.com/If you change the number in quotes after "width" and "height", then the size will change.

To markb:
Well, other than getting Orthodox Christians in the world together, and exchanging opinions, knowledge and experience, I see no other purpose. If I would have thought that way - there are a dozen Orthodox forums out there, and why should I create another one? - then the OOCA wouldn't have been created in the first place.
Actually, the OOCA was created by a group of Tumblr-ites. That's the only big difference. Anyway, if you do not like it here, you can leave anytime (not suggesting you to do that). But I think that being member of more Orthodox forums, might bring you more info or knowledge on Orthodoxy.
And I thought the interaction in the OOCA might be a little more personal and filled with love... We are all people, and we do this (trying to get the OOCA going) with our hearts - it is not our profession to do this. We do this freely, in our free time. we ask no money (we take no money), we give no money. We do what we can do.
So there's no other purpose that bringing the world Orthodox Christians together, in a community of love, peace, understanding and cooperation for better lives and salvation of the soul.
