I always loved monasticism and I've been in many monasteries here in Greece. Have you ever visited one? Did you enjoy your visit/stay?

I visited a Roman Catholic monastery when I was 5 (though I don't remember much about it other than being chased around by a wasp) though I would love to go to the Orthodox monastery they have in Essex as well as Mount Athos!

There is a Romanian Orthodox monastery for women near my school. I've been wanting to go for ages- hoping to stay there sometime this coming semester.

I've been to the Pechersky Lavra, but it's not exactly very monastery-like since it's in the middle of the city. It was also during a terrible, long flight, so I didn't really enjoy it all that much I want to see a monastery very badly

Yeah... I went to a few monasteries when I was in Russia but they were all so full of tourists that it didn't really feel like a monastery, with no disrespect to the people there. I was with a group of friends as well, so I didn't get to have the kind of experience I would have liked.
I look forward to the opportunity to actually stay in a monastery, God willing.

Tragically, here in England, there are not many Monasteries.
We have the Greek Monastery in Essex, a Romanian one in Shropshire and a Coptic one in Yorkshire (Though this one does not take visitors often)
The only other one is a Greek monastery in the south, though it is under the Synod in resistence (Under Met. Cyprian of Oropos). Does anyone know if it would still be acceptable to visit a Monastery of a group like this. Not for me (as they would drive me out as a "monophysite Heretic") but for others.

I (for a couple of hours) visited the monastery in Aegina and fell in love with it, especially with the relics of St. Nectarios Also, a long time ago (about 11 years maybe?) I went to the Monastery of St. John the Forerunner in Goldendale, Washington. I've always loved that monastery, and every year on June 24 they have a huge celebration and all the priest's in Seattle and the surrounding cities would come. These are both Greek Monasteries.

Time to share my experience as well! I have been in many monasteries like the Holy Monastery of Souroti where there is Elder Paisios' grave, and in Saint Nektarios Monastery in Aegina! To me, all the Monasteries are unique, no matter if they are inside the city or in the highest mountain.

I have been to the Holy Trinity Monastery on Meteora in Greece. It was a haunting and beautiful experience... very humbling.

I have not been to any Orthodox Monasteries but plan to visit St. Andreas here in Korea in the next month or so. It is right near the DMZ and has only two Novice Monks living there. I met the monks, Johann and Gregorios, just last weekend at the annual Children's Summer Camp (picture on Tumblr). They are such great people. I only spoke a bit with Gregorios through a translator so, we weren't able to speak at length. My Korean isn't very good and his English wasn't that great either. But, what's cool is that he studied in France for some years and now translates French texts into Korean. I'm not sure which texts, but I hope to find out when I visit him next month.
There is another monastery here in Korea for women, The monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior. I plan to visit there as well.

I would love to go and stay at one, or just visit! But I don't even know if we have any in New Zealand...

I've read about the Holy Archangels Monastery. Located in New Zealand in a valley at the northen end of the Taraua Mountain Ranges near a town called Levin. It is about one and a half hours north of the capital, Wellington.

I want to go to the Greek Orthodox monastery about an hour from my house but after looking at their website, I don't think they let people stay overnight on the grounds. It would be nice to visit anyway!

I've been to Meteora in Greece and visited one of the monasteries there. It was beautiful! I have an icon of Christ Pantokrator that I keep in my bedroom.
I also recently visited a Serbian monastery near my city to see a talk held by Archimandrite Joachim Parr, which was wonderful. Please contact me if you'd like to hear the recording of his lecture!
