Hello!
Nikosnature from tumblr, who's a Roman Catholic, sent me the following message:
As you may have heard, the Tumblr Roman Catholics have a facebook group where we organize and discuss issues pertaining to our faith and how we live it out on the day-to-day. On this group there has been talk about how many members of the Orthodox community are well-versed in theology, and how great it is when we work together to deal with common ¡nuisances,¢ regarding trolls in the Catholic tag, for example.
Would you know if the Orthodox Catholic community would be willing to join a joint facebook page with the Roman Catholic community? It would be a great place where we could exchange ideas and viewpoints on faith, and I think it would benefit both our communities to have a place in common. What do you think? Would you pass this along to other members of the Orthodox community who might be interested? Thank you for reading! God bless you.
Personally, though it could theoritically be a nice idea, I don't know how much useful could be for the Orthodox Christians such dialogues. It's not that I'm against dialogue, but, you see, everyone has his opinion and each group will try to "force" others to believe his opinion, as it happens always with these dialogues (okay in case of Orthodox, Orthodoxy is not just a simple opinion but the fullness of truth).
But it's just my opinion. So, what do you think?

it is a nice idea and a lot of good could come out of it, such as discussion of contemporary Saints and their influence. I often see people talking about St Seraphim of Sarov and Francis of Assisi together and it shows a mutual respect, which is beautiful.
The problem is that I can see it causing arguments. We have very different doctrines on certain things and all it takes is someone to put up a flamable quote or link to a site saying "What the Church fathers believed on (Insert Roman doctrine here)" and it would become sectarian. It would be very risky and a very fragile alliance.

There is also an issue of the relationship between the churches. As Roman Catholics, they are to believe that we Orthodox are the schismatics, and that the Roman Catholic church is the true church, and we believe vice-versa. It'll be more friendly than a group with other Christians such as Protestants, but I forsee issues rising up.

I see this as being a potentially beneficial exchange. The Western world, having been dominated by Catholic and Protestant scholasticism for the past millennium, knows very little about the Orthodoxy.
This could be an opportunity both for clearing up misconceptions about Eastern Christianity and for practicing civil dialogue. Many Catholic and Orthodox users have befriended each other on tumblr and have found much common ground.

Hmmm.. I think it's not this one dear gonesimera. But I'll contact Nikosnature and I'll ask to share a link with me to post it here. But we have to keep in mind that in this group we Orthodox will be a small minority. But propably it would be good for us to join, as an opportunity for clearing up misconceptions about Orthodoxy, as josephofsambro said.

John, I'd be wary of that group. It tends to revolve around someone posting a comment and polemicists coming out of the woodwork. A recent discussion on Toll Booths there ended up with constant labels of someone who disagreed with it as a "heretic" when the Toll Booth concept is not even seen as doctrine. After they kicked out a well respected Coptic Priest and writer (Abouna Peter) for simply trying to start up a discussion on reunion I gave up this group.

It could be a good idea but equally it could be potentially hazardous, especially if certain doctrines are mentioned that neither of us will budge over and if as Niko said that it could be used to discuss matters of faith then it is likely to turn volatile. I think we only have to look at what occurs in the Holy Sepulchre (though granted, Facebook allows for less broom throwing!)
In theory it is a good thing because we can clear up misconceptions about Orthodoxy. But in practise it could see relations turning sour and I think we need to ask ourselves if it is worth the risk.

James, I thought that the Latins tend to stay out of the fighting at the Sepulchre, isn't it usually between the Greeks and Armenians?
