Hello everybody! Are there any Orthodox films you have watched? I have seen the Russian movie "Ostrov" (with english subtitles). It is a story of a fool for Christ who lives in a monastery in repentance after committing a terrible sin but people flock to him since he is a miracle worker and a clairvoyant. Also, the russian film Andrei Rublev is also nice. In case you haven't see Ostrov (The island), you can see it here:

Ostrov is great.
One of my favourites is called mr Vig and the Nun. It is a documentary about the founding of the first Moscow Patriarchate nunnery in Denmark and how the mindset of the man whose house was being developed changed as did his relationship with the sisters. It is funny and really sweet.

I really loved Ostrov! I actually saw it for the first time before knowing anything at all about Orthodoxy and then watched it again recently- found it very thoughtful and moving both times though I have a greater appreciation for it now. Andrei Rublev is good too.
I'll have to watch the others recommended here as well...

This is a must-watch mini documentary about an Australian man who was an atheist and university lecturer but ended becoming a desert monk in Egypt.
Btw, can anyone tell me what he's saying in the first part at 5:11 and forward. "This means that we are all the time moving on the one rail..........of Christian faith". "one rail a track of of Christian faith"? Can anyone hear what he's saying there?

"On the one rail of the track, track of our Christian faith" it sounds like. This documentary is brilliant, his interviews in the CYC channel are also inspirational.
It reminds me of another which is coming soon, The Stylite: A matter of faith, which looks at a man who is rebuilding a Church on a small cliff in Georgia.

Not sure if you'd count it as an Orthodox film, but Andrei Rublev is one of my favourites. I'm also a big fan of the film Ostrov (As mentioned by Simply Orthodox)

Thanks OrthodoxBrit and Justina.
That Stylite one looks interesting. I think I've heard about it before.
There's also a documentary film about the Zabbaleen (Cairos Christian garbage collectors) but I don't know if it's suited here.

I saw this documentary at a conference before. It is really sad what the children go through especially.
One other movie which may appeal to all here is 'The return of the icon' which is about the return of the Tikvin Mother of God icon to Russia, where it was taken from to escape destruction during world war 2. It shows how hundreds of thousands came to see it paraded through the streets and to venerate it.

I watched "Ostrov" a few years ago. It was great! It was a well-produced movie that made the heart and spirituality of Russia come alive for me.

Check out "A Pilgrim's Way" and "Mysteries of the Jesus Prayer" also. I've nearly burned holes in these two from so many viewings, haha. God bless!

This isn't really a film as such, more of a documentary. It's in Greek but with English subtitles about Elder Paisios. It's called, "Elder Paisios- Saint of our times". youtu.be/mP6K5mR11wU (part 1)
