Virgin Mary in Sweden? Several persons are said to have seen the Holy Virgin above a Church yesterday (Sunday). “Several of our church members saw St Mary on the roof of our church”, says Teghlat Sauma, Chairman of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Tensta, St Mary Church. This phenomenon is said to have shown itself three times before it disappeared. The St Mary Church had a visitor that day, the Bishop of war-torn Homs (Syria) and in his Cross which he walked around with in the Church hall he had put a few threads said to have come from the Girdle of Virgin Mary (which is in Syria). When the bishop had continued away from there and many people were outside the Church several of them saw Mary. “I talked to two men who had seen her, one saw her from the side and the other one saw a round face and body that just shone. Up on the roof.” When I ask Sauma about what the vision means, he says that it may have something to do with the new Church. And the situation in Syria. “St Mary invites us to pray for peace. She wants peace.” -------- Personally, this is the first time I know of that something like this has happened in Sweden. I know that Syriacs aren’t the types to “see” stuff like this. At least not look for it, and definitely not in Sweden. The more you look at the photo the more it resembles Virgin Mary =P. Maybe it’s the brain. Had to have looked better live and closer up though. Also, a bit of coincidence since I wrote about the Girdle on Tumblr a few days ago. What do you think? Not everyday you hear about a miracle connected to the Syriac Orthodox Church...

Miracles continued in the St Mary Church also on Monday when nearly 500 people gathered to pray for peace and to hear those who saw the Virgin on Sunday testify that they had seen:
- Several times during the prayer bright lights were seen in the windows and people shouting and a few rushed up there, Teghlat Sauma told after Monday's prayer.
- Many were excited and surprised and those who did not previously believe began to believe.
-------
Apparently there are some better photos taken by people. If I find any I'll post them.

Thanks for your response! When you post something in a few places and almost no one responds you start to think "are we crazy or something". I showed the photo to my mom and she recognized it immediately. It looks like the one where her hands are out. Almost like this but with a straight head:

it is certainly interesting, especially in a Diaspora community.
The mother of God appears in Coptic Churches whenever there are Martyrdoms so Sauma is probably right, she is coming to remind her Children that she is there.

Btw, since we Orthodox don't have many icons of Virgin Mary alone without baby Jesus, what do you feel about apparitions of her without the baby? I know that in Zeitun she appeared mostly without the baby Jesus.

Very interesting, thanks for posting Suryoyo.

I know that in Zeitun she appeared mostly without the baby Jesus. I feel like this is saying that she is a separate entity. She was already a very special person before Jesus (God wouldn't choose just anybody for her job, you know?) and I think this helps us understand that there is more to her than just being Jesus' mom.
